More than just siding

We offer all kinds of exterior wrapping services in Ottawa, not just siding/cladding. Here are others we specialize in:

Soffits

Soffits are an often-overlooked, yet crucial, component of your home’s exterior. The underside of your roof’s overhang is covered by soffits and it needs to be ventilated to help allow air to circulate and prevent moisture build up in your attic.

Soffits, like the rest of the parts covering your home’s exterior, can be made of a variety of materials. Each one has its own set of characteristics that may or may not make it a good fit for your home.

Here are some of the popular materials used for soffits and their different advantages:

Aluminum Soffits

At Northco Services we offer and install aluminum soffits on almost every project.

In comparison to other materials, aluminum provides higher damage protection. It won’t decay and is bug-resistant. It also resists moisture better, protecting your rafters and attic from decay and other damage. Aluminum Soffits are also installed in sections and can be easily repaired if damaged.

Wood-look Aluminum Soffits

There are also thicker, more appealing Aluminum Soffits out there that look like wood and truly appeal to the eyes. One example is Royal Cedar Renditions. These come in 2 forms, either vented or unvented.

Specialty Soffits

There are other products out there like James Hardie HardieSoffits that look amazing and still allow for proper ventilation and blend perfectly with a James Hardie siding installation. This is a tough and non-porous material, so it’s resistant to dampness and insects. This also means it’s flame resistant and resistant to decay. It withstands all climates without the problems that vinyl does, and the color lasts longer than wood.

Other products like Cedar and Maibec Genuine Wood offer the possibility of having wood soffits with proper venting, through their patented ventilated strips, and look just superb.

Vinyl Soffits

This type of Soffit has advantages like low costs and low maintenance, similar to Aluminum Soffits.

Fascia

Fascia and Fascia Boards are the component that cover the “front face” of your roof’s edge and are used to provide a stable backing for the eavestroughs installation.

Most modern Fascia are made of Aluminum, in a color that matches Soffits, but they can also be made of lumber/wood, HardieBoard/HardieTrim, or other flat materials.

While they can to last for years, Fascia do need to be replaced or repaired eventually. At NorthCo Services, we have one of the best teams in fascia installation and repairs in the Canadian capital.

Eavesthroughs and Downspouts

In wet weather, Eavestroughs aka “gutters”, collect and transport water away from the roof, down into your Downspouts, and release it away from the foundation, thus preventing damage to it due to water sitting and seeping through it.

While Eavestroughs may appear insignificant, they play an important role in extending the life of your home, by preventing soil erosion and keeping water from seeping through your foundation and into your basement.

Because of their importance, it’s key that you repair your Eavesthroughs as soon as they present signs of wear and tear, start coming undone from the Fascia, or if you see signs of leakage.

If you feel like your Eavesthroughs and Downspouts need repair,

What’s the process?

The first step in giving your home a complete makeover is to prepare the jobsite, which includes moving and protecting your belongings before we setup our tools and equipment, and setting up a bin to collect all the waste in a manner that doesn’t damage your driveway or block access.

Then we’ll remove all Eavestroughs, Fascia, Soffits, all layers of the old siding and underlayment/membrane, in order to see the condition of the existing structure and to prepare the surface for the installation of the new products. If we notice any deficiencies that require attention, we’ll bring these up with you, propose a plan, and move forward with the work once you approve everything in your client portal.

After the surface is deemed fit for new production installation, we’ll proceed with window and door installation, if you’ve signed on for that option with us. Tyvek house wrap is then installed to make your home impermeable to water, while still allowing it to breath. If you’ve opted to add extra insulation to your home, usually as Rigid Foam Insulation underneath the new siding, we’ll take care of that too.

The next step is the most important because it’s what you and everyone sees the most… we’ll install all new Trim and Siding to manufacturer’s specifications, so you can benefit from their awesome warranties.

Once the new Siding is on, we’ll install new exhaust vents, install your fixtures, caulk everything, and move on to the next steps, which is to install all new Soffits, Fascia, and Eavestroughs and Downspouts.

We’ll treat your home with the same care and attention as if it were our own. After the work is completed, we’ll give the outside of your home a complete clean up with our blowers and magnets, so make sure we get as much of the debris off your property.

Our Project Managers will always do a full walk-through with you to make sure you are satisfied with everything. If you’re not, we’ll fix it! That’s how we manage to get 5-star reviews across the board, we never leave homeowners dissatisfied.

And that’s it!

What are the top reasons to do a
full exterior renovation with us?

There are  many different advantages to renovating your Soffits, Fascia, and Eavestroughs and Downspouts.

Here are a few of these benefits:

Prevent further damage and decay of your property

Having new siding installed can help seal the outside of your home to the elements and prevent moisture/rot/mold issues for years to come.

Your Soffits, Fascia, and Eavestroughs and Downspouts will also require general repair over time. Whether these have been damaged by wind, ice, rowdy teenagers, or have begun to collect water and decay, you must act promptly. Failure to do so can result in the damage compounding each season and eventually leading to more major issues.

You’ll be boosting the value of your property

A potential homebuyer will likely have your home inspected professionally if you decide to put it on the market. If the inspector notices deficiencies in any of your home’s exterior components, they will be going into a written report and potential buyers could use that to negotiate the purchase price down, or even back out altogether.

Be proactive! It’s less expensive to do the repair yourself ahead of time, and your house will sell more quickly.

By repairing your home's exterior, you’ll increase the energy efficiency of your home

Not many siding products offer significant insulation value, but there are some out there like the Royal Haven that can up to R2.4 to your home’s exterior. Having new house wrap and siding installed also helps seal everything up and limit the amount of cold air transferring to your wall cavities.

You can also add Rigid Foam Insulation underneath your new siding, which can up to R6 per inch with the products we use. It’s up to you to decide how many inches you want to install, but most homeowners opt for the 2″ – R12 version, with some even going to the 3″ (2″+1″) or 4″ (2″+2″) installations.

Rigid Foam allows you to increase your home’s energy efficiency tremendously, without having to rip open drywall and change all wall cavity insulation.

You’ll improve the curb appeal of your home

When it comes to selling your property, curb appeal is crucial. Damaged or dated siding, broken Soffits, Fascia, and Eavestroughs and Downspouts can really turn onlookers off.

And even if you’re not selling your home, why not treat yourself to a new exterior that you can be proud of and that makes your house stand out from the rest of the street.

Keep animals from building nests in your roof

It’s not uncommon for homeowners to have problems with birds and other animals coming into their soffits and building a home underneath the roofline. Making sure your Soffits and Fascia are secure is the first and best way to make sure you don’t have critters nesting up there.

Reduce the amount of time you spend cleaning Eavestroughs each season

Our professional team offer a variety of Gutter-Guards that can be installed on existing or new Eavestroughs. Our lineup of products offers protection against various types of trees and actually work well (compared to cheaper versions out there). Spend less time up on a ladder getting dirt on your face, leave the leaves to the wind.
